Ecological 7 Day Tour

Day 1

Upon arrival to San Jose you will be transferred to your hotel. The afternoon/evening is free to explore San Jose

Day 2 / 3 / 4

SAMOA LODGE - TORTUGUERO CANALS - TOUR DESCRIPTION:

At 6:30 a.m. pick-ups at the major hotels of San José. We also estimate further pick-ups at the restaurant Caribbean Dish in Siquirres at 9:30 a.m. for all those people returning from other tours and for whom it is easier to participate in this tour from there.

Coffee plantations:

Visit of 10 minutes at San Luis de Santo Domingo de Heredia. On the site, where you can perfectly admire the coffee cherry (known as “grano de oro”), the guides provide socio-economical and historical information of the coffee production of Costa Rica.



Cloud Forest Braulio Carrillo National Park:

Visit of 10 minutes to enjoy the panoramic view, to take pictures and for information of the flora and fauna, as well as on the history of this park that is located 7500 feet above sea level. Stop for a typical breakfast.


Pineapple plantation:

Visit of 10 minutes with general information on the pineapple production of Costa Rica in “La Herediana de Siquirres”. While watching the large plantations, you can see the Turrialba volcano in all its beauty.


Banana plantations and Packing Stations:

Visit of 15 minutes where the tourist can appreciate a close-up view of the whole process of cutting, preparation and packing of the bananas for exportation, accompanied by ample information by your guide.

We reach the peer of Caño Blanco where we will get ready to for the boat that will take us through the exuberant canals of Tortuguero, where the hotel is located.
We will check in, have lunch and get ready for the tour to the village in the afternoon.

Tour to the village of Tortuguero with detailed information on its history, culture and work in favor of conservation of the sea turtles and the flora and fauna in general. We will also visit the Sea Museum of the “Caribbean Conservation Corporation”, where the guest completes the information received during the village-tour. You can enjoy a walk through the gift-shops and get a typical Caribbean souvenir. Duration of the tour: 1½ hours


Morning- Tour:


On the second day, early morning visit of the canals within the National park to discover a large variety of bird and to receive detailed information on the flora and fauna. Duration of the tour: 2 hours


Hill of Tortuguero:

This tour is included in the trip of 3 days/ 2 nights. It provides impressive views on the whole valley of Tortuguero and from the trail it is easy to discover its different species of inhabitants among which are three different kinds of monkeys, sloths, caimans, turtles, iguanas, poison arrow frogs and many birds and insects including the blue butterfly (Morpho peleides).

On the Hotel property you have the possibility to take a walk on the different trails through exuberant vegetation full of life, as well as through the gardens on the property to discover various species of exotic and tropical flowers.
 

 

Day 4

After a leisurely breakfast, you will depart through the Tortuguero Channels towards Puerto Viejo de Limon and the South Caribbean. Though the canal you will have the opportunity to see a variety of wildlife, as well as the exotic man-made canals. From your journey on the boat (3 hours) you will then be transferred to Pizote Lodge on a scenic road along the beach (2 hours). You’ll be spending the next 2 nights at El Pizote Lodge in one of our quaint bungalows.

You will be free to enjoy the attractions at Pizote, with a swimming pool, ecological trails in 18 hectares of private reserve, and a scenic hill overlook. The lodge is set back from the Caribbean sea with views from the restaurant and bar, which offer a wide variety of tropical dishes and drinks as well as well-known favorites such as pizza and hamburgers. All this is set in the undiscovered Caribbean village of Puerto Viejo de Limon, with beautiful beaches, numerous available activities, and a Costa Rican/Afro-Caribbean culture all of its own. During the evening you will be able to enjoy the nightlife of Puerto Viejo, with sounds of crashing waves and rhythmic reggae beats abound in this laid-back Caribbean town.

Day 5

This day is open to do as much or as little as you wish. Breakfast is included at Pizote Lodge at your leisure, and relaxing by the pool or beach are favorite activities. You can also take an optional tour today, options include snorkeling, scuba diving, dolphin watching, bicycle rental, trips to Cahuita National Park, trips to Panama, and tours of the indigenous Talamanca community. You can arrange for a tour once at the lodge or in advance if you wish.

Day 6

After breakfast you’ll be transferred back to San Jose by bus along the Limon highway and Braulio Carrillo, returning to San Jose in the afternoon to your hotel. The evening is free to enjoy San Jose.

Day 7

You will be transferred to the airport for your return flight. If you have an afternoon flight.

What to bring:
Jeans, good shoes, rain coat, long sleeved shirts, swim suite, camera, film, mosquito repellent.
